Hampi (Mistical Oassis)

Hampi is a quiet and marvellous village in Karnataka. The village is on a granite platform crossed by amazing and holy rivers. It seems that the water during the rainy months is accumulated in large lakes in the ground. The water is released slowly into the rivers for the rest of the year. This make Hampi an incredible and natural Oasis. The land is very fertile producing banana tree, rice fields, sugar cane, Pine apples, etc. All food that you eat here is grown in the area.
It is one of the seven holiest places in India as it holds 1 of seven Magic Lingan in the temple, symbol of the union of Shiva (creative male energy) and his consort Parvarati. The Ligan is a symbol of the cosmic union of the masculine and the feminine. So when this 2 energies mixed there is a paradise on earth. Hampi is one.

Meditating on the hills around it is one of the pleasures of this city. I got to meet 2 Sadus Sitaram up in the rocks around the monkey temple. Sadus or Babas are yogins that have chosen a life dedicated to meditation and search for enlightment (some use "enlightment" substances in their seach). Old sadus are very respected by settle population, in fact once you have raised your family it is normal step to became a sadu, but on the other hand young sadus are considered more or less like hippies in the west. Sadus Sitaram meditate under the sun at noon for hours, with a circle of fire around them, some they even put a bowl with fire on their heads to increase the temperature ... purification though fire is the target. Only Sadus Sitaram and crazy Spaniards hang around on the hills at the hotest hours of the day!
